Sustainable Development

The Step By Step Sustainable World Fund adopts its view of sustainable development from the United Nations in the Bruntland Report. Sustainable development means meeting the needs of present populations without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.

Sustainable development incorporates two key concepts: that the essential needs of the world’s poor should be given priority; and that the earth’s environment is limited in its ability to meet present and future needs. This in turn guides the definition of appropriate economic and social development for all economies.

The Step By Step Sustainable World Fund provides recycling groups an opportunity to participate directly in sustainable development with our shoe recycling mission. Recycling shoes provides environmental and social benefits, simultaneously generating benefits for non-profit organizations and our planet.
